Pregnancy Massage
Expectant mothers experience unique physical and emotional changes that occur as a result of increased weight, shifting posture, and fluctuating hormone levels. While this is a beautiful period of heightened expectation and joy, mothers-to-be also endure heightened physical discomfort that ranges from muscular tension and headaches to pressure on the stomach, back, hips, knees and feet.
Prenatal massage is a natural, touch therapy treatment designed to help alleviate these and other pregnancy related symptoms. You therapist must be nationally certified to do pregnancy massage, always ask for certification. Christie is nationally certified and has been well trained in the art of pregnancy massage.
When you arrive at Indigo Blue Massage & Wellness, Christie will choose techniques that are safe and effective her pregnant clients. Prenatal or pregnancy massage offers a wide range of benefits, which include the following:
* Eases backaches, headaches, shoulder and neck aches that may be caused by muscle tension and shifts in your posture to accommodate increasing weight
*Decreases pain in the pelvic and hip area
* Increases circulation
* Improves digestion and decreases constipation
* Reduces fatigue
* Improves skin elasticity to reduce stretch marks
* Helps reduce swelling in hands, legs and feet
* Can help alleviate the stress on weight-bearing joints, like the hips, knees, ankles and feet, which are impacted by the extra weight of the growing baby
*Promotes relaxation and deep breathing to help during labor and delivery
* Helps stabilize hormone levels and lessen anxiety during pregnancy
Taking time for the mother to be during pregnancy can be uplifting emotionally and physically. The soothing strokes of massage allow our pregnant moms to unwind, de-stress and feel secure, healthy, and comfortable during a period of added physical and emotional stress.
Some of our clients also choose to incorporate the elements of massage during childbirth to cope with delivery. At Indigo Blue Massage & Wellness, we can work with expectant husbands and wives to teach each expectant couple how massage can help an expectant mother during labor. Massage can help with contractions, lower back pain and assisting the mother on how to relax during labor and delivery.
Massage therapy can also be a therapeutic treatment for post pregnancy. As your body returns to its normal pre-pregnancy state, massage can help with anxiety and stress as you begin your exciting life with that new baby. Massage of the abdomen can help stimulate the uterine contractions which help to shrink the uterus back to its normal pre-pregnancy size.
New moms are also learning how to bring the benefits of touch therapy to their new children through infant massage classes.
All expectant mothers should check with their doctors prior to getting a massage. If you have diabetes or high blood pressure, or you are in the early stages of pregnancy, such as the first trimester, massage may not be recommended. It is important to share information about your condition with Christie and discuss your preferences when you arrive or make your appointment. Christie will adjust your massage to make it as safe and comfortable as possible.
